Learning Styles
We value your views and opinions and we want to hear them. Class discussions are the main way we teach English at Collyer's. We aim to make it as enjoyable as possible.
Subject combinations and progression
Most students who are taking GCSE English will be on either a mixed programme of AS Levels or Intermediate courses, e.g. BTEC First Diplomas. A pass at GCSE English is usually necessary for progression to a full AS programme at Collyer's.
Subject modules and assessment
Paper One (30%)
Section A: Reading response to non-fiction/media texts.
Section B: Writing to either argue or persuade or advise.
Paper Two (30%)
Section A: Response to poetry from different cultures.
Section B: Writing to either inform or explain or describe.
Coursework (40%)
For the coursework, you will be assessed on your Speaking and Listening, your original writing and study of a Shakespeare play, a Media text and some short stories.
