English GCSE

GCSE English is one of the most valuable and widely accepted qualifications for many different careers. This course is designed for students who have already achieved a grade D at GCSE English Language and wish to or need to improve their grade. For school leavers looking to improve their grades, an interview with the course tutor is required. Course Content English skills are at the heart of the written coursework, involving: • Writing: Fiction and Non Fiction • Spoken Language Task (Controlled Assessment) • Preparation for Exam • Speaking and Listening (three assessed tasks) • Knowledge about Language • Drafting and Revising. During the course, you will be helped to improve your accuracy in spelling, grammar and punctuation and to develop other language skills, vocabulary, sentence structure and so on. You will also develop your speaking and listening skills, which will include role play. How will I be assessed? This course will be assessed by a combination of coursework and examination. Progression A qualification in English is a valuable enhancement to your career opportunities. Successful completion of this course enables you to proceed to Advanced Level English and many other subjects. Fees If you have not already achieved GCSE English C or above you will be entitled to fee remission otherwise you will be required to pay a fee of £341. If you are in receipt of an income-based qualifying benefit, you may be entitled to a fee reduction. Please remember to bring evidence of entitlement with you when you come to enrol.
