What is this course about?
The course aims to develop your understanding of the English Language - what it is and how it works. You will explore a wide variety of English Language texts - spoken and written - and learn how to analyse language use in different contexts.

What topics will I study?
You will focus on three specific social contexts at AS:
  • Language and Power
  • Language and Gender
  • Language and Technology

At A2 you will look at how children acquire language and how language has changed over time. For coursework you will carry out a language investigation on a subject of your own choice.

How will my work be assessed?
  • At AS you will be assessed by an examination at the end of the year and by a coursework folder of original writing.
  • At A2 you will be assessed by an examination at the end of the year and through language investigation coursework.
