Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?

How will I be assessed?
Functional Skills is assessed in a traditional test format along with a speaking and listening assessment in the form of a group discussion. The test assesses your reading and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar. There are opportunities to retake the test throughout the year. The Foundation Project is assessed via a production log, dossier of evidence, presentation and a written report (250-1000 words) which is marked by a teacher and moderated externally.

What can I do afterwards?
As a guarantee of competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening, a good grade at GCSE English is an essential qualification required by universities and many employers. All students on advanced courses at the college who do not have a grade C or above in English should re-take this subject. Intermediate level students will need a minimum of grade C in English to progress to an advanced level course.
