Enhancing Critical care skills in Midwifery

Midwives are increasingly required to exercise more confidence in their role as members of the multidisciplinary team making decisions about caring for women facing serious and more complex situations during childbirth. The DH Reports, 'Saving mothers lives" (2011) and 'Delivering Best Practice' (2003) have recommended that midwives increase their knowledge and skills in critical care in order to contribute to decision making within a multidisciplinary strategic workforce.This module was designed with this in mind.This module will enable you to reflect and consolidate on experiences of managing key life threatening episodes in order to contribute to multidisciplinary team decision making. Applicants would normally be expected to have been practicing as a registered midwife for at least one year.
