You will have the chance to try out pathways in Public Services, Health & Social Care and Caring for Children as one vocational taster per term.
Public Services
In this course you will learn how to conduct yourself appropriately in the workplace, explore types of conduct and how to review your conduct. You will learn how to plan a healthy lifestyle for working in a variety of public services. You will also learn about fitness testing used by uniformed public services and assess your own fitness levels against these standards by participating in various fitness activities. You will have the chance to design a fitness plan to improve your health, wellbeing and fitness levels. A group project will provide you with the knowledge to work effectively as a member of a team through planning, carrying out and evaluating a group project on an aspect of the public service.
Health and Social Care
In this course you will consider your own health needs and will learn about factors that affect health. You will learn that being healthy is about more than not being ill and explore the health needs of different individuals. You will also find out about the social care provision to meet these needs. You will get to understand the responsibilities of carers in ensuring mealtimes enable individuals to be independent and enjoy their food. You will be introduced to the range of equipment that supports independence at mealtimes and learn about ways to support individuals in health and social care settings.
Caring for Children
In this course you will be introduced to how children and adults communicate with each other, using both verbal and non-verbal communication. You will look at the role of the adult and how they can provide a stimulating environment, giving opportunities for encouraging children to extend their language and communication skills. You will identify resources that can be used with children and will have the opportunity to plan and make a resource that will encourage a child’s communication skills. You will also explore and develop your knowledge of how to provide for the physical care needs of young children and prepare a routine to meet a physical care need of one child.
You will learn by applying your skills by working in small groups, making presentations, completing written assignments and practical tasks.
You will have a personal tutor who will help you be successful and make sure you are prepared for your next steps in learning.
You will also improve the skills you need to either get a job or improve the skills you already have such as working in a team, communication skills and researching different careers.
