The epidemiologist is the figure who works in the field of epidemiology, the biomedical discipline that studies the distribution and frequency of diseases and health events in the population. Using statistics, he collaborates with other disciplines such as preventive and clinical medicine, demography, sociology. He deals with analyzing the causes, course and consequences of diseases. Cross-sectional (or prevalence) studies are studies that are based on the observation of the sample at a precise moment in order to verify the presence of a disease and at the same time the exposure to one or more risk factors (RF, or RF), or the presence of any other condition that may be associated with the phenomenon that is the object of the study. Prevalence surveys are therefore very similar to descriptive studies, but differ from these in that they do not use existing data, but provide for the direct collection of data, referring to a precise moment or a defined period of time. A cross-sectional study can be considered as a "snapshot" of the group of subjects examined (population or sample), in relation to the health phenomenon that is the object of the study and the characteristics of the group itself. The epidemiologist is the competent professional in epidemiology. The possible protection of the title as well as the qualification path to acquire it depend on the legislation of each nation in the world. The subjects of study to become an epidemiologist are, apart from medicine, sanitary hygiene and demography.
