The European Computer Driving Licence is a new computing qualification that establishes European standards for everyone who uses a computer. It has already been adopted by many large organisations as the performance benchmark they expect from their employees. It is an internationally recognised qualification endorsed by the British Computer Society. Subjects include: Basic Concepts, Management Files, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentations, Information and Communication.

Aim:
The ECDL is the first pan-European Union qualification in personal computing skills. The syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society in general. It is broken down into seven modules, each of which must be passed before the ECDL certificate is awarded.
Length of Study:
36 weeks with tutor support.
Entry Requirements:
ECDL is open to anyone - regardless of age, education, experience or background. However it is advisable for students to have a good grounding in basic computing skills before starting this course by distance learning.
Contents:
Basic Concepts of IT, Management of Files, Word-Processing, Spreadsheets, Database Filing Systems, Presentation and Drawing, Information Network Services.
Study Method:
Home or work-based self-study with additional support and advice from personal tutor. Practice testing will require Internet Access
Assessment:
Seven exams, each lasting approximately 45 minutes. These exams must be taken at Reid Kerr College, or another accredited test centre. Students are issued with an ECDL logbook to record progress.
Comments:
Candidates require access to Microsoft Office 2007 Students will have access to computer facilities by Reid Kerr by arrangement for additional support.
Cost:
£250 - This includes all support and materials as well as one attempt at each of the seven ECDL exams. There is a charge of £15 to resit each exam and also a charge to students claiming fee waiver of £25 Registration Fee.
