One day workshop
Teaching methods are tailored to the learning needs and preferences of the group, but would usually include: formal presentation supported by overheads and handout materials, group discussion, individual and small group exercises, worksheets, and question
This workshop will consider the current environment in which therapists work in relation to emerging trends in research and evidence based practice. Key terminology (including research evidence based practice, audit, efficacy, effectiveness, efficiency, systematic review, guidelines, protocols and standards) will be defined. Aspects of research and evidence based practice will be explored in relation to occupational therapy practice. Different levels of research participation (researchers, facilitators, consumers) will be considered. Participants will be enabled to review their own values and behaviours related to research and examine their current practice in terms of the underlying evidence for the assessments and interventions they use. Handout materials will provide worksheets for identifying potential questions for clinical research and/or systematic reviews, which participants will be able to use in their own settings. The process for undertaking a review and implementing evidencebased assessments and interventions into current practice will be presented and discussed. Therapists will be supported to examine the potential within their workplace for integrating research. Participants will be supported to develop an action plan for integrating research into their future clinical practice.
