This course is for anyone aged 16 or over who has a keen interest in sport, fitness or coaching. This course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for current and future employment in the sport and related industries. The course is equivalent to three A levels, which will enable you to progress onto higher education when you complete the course.

About this course

You will need to have four GCSEs at grade C or above, or a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject, or an Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject, or appropriate work experience.

Course programme

What will I study on the course?

You will study nutrition for sport and exercise, qualitative sport and exercise research, exercise health and lifestyle and biomechanics. All students will study six core units: scientific principles for sport and exercise, sport and exercise sciences project, sport and exercise psychology, skill acquisition, exercise physiology, practical sport coaching. Plus an additional 12 specialist units: anatomy for sport and exercise, social aspects of sport, fitness testing, physiological factors in sport and exercise, sport massage, sports injuries, practical sport performance and sport industry experience.

Additional information

This is a two year course. You will attend college four days per week (36 weeks in year 1 and 34 weeks in year two). You will study three core units plus six specialist units per year, each unit lasting two hours.
