Students require a prior knowledge of FASD together with the primary and secondary disabilities caused by FASD. We would recommend completing the Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) Course if you have not got this knowledge.

The following topics are covered: Behaviours associated with FASD; FASD – A Predisposition to Criminal Behaviour; Secondary Disabilities in the Absence of Intervention; Supported Services; Offender Pattern; Mistakes made in the Criminal Justice System; and Pre-trial Issues and FASD.
Unit 2: Assisting an Individual with FASD Through the Legal Process
The following topics are covered: Legal Responsibility and Competency; Investigation and Pre-trial; The Trial; The Testimony of a Person with FASD; Assisting the FASD Individual in Court; FASD and the Individual in Custody; Court Recommendations; Competency Evaluation; Management of FASD within the Court System; and Sentencing.
