About this course
Standard AS/A level entry requirements of five GCSEs at grade A*-C apply.
In addition you will need to have achieved grade B or above in Art or Textiles and a grade C or above in English. A portfolio of your work, displaying your artistic achievement and potential will be required at interview.
Plus a minimum APS score: 39.

Aim This course will encourage you to explore and develop a range of textile techniques. You will take initial ideas and inspirations and develop them into fashion/textile designs. Part of your studies will also include the opportunity to visit museums, art galleries and exhibitions to further broaden your awareness of the wide variety of textile-based arts and crafts available.
Content During the course you will:
· Demonstrate an expressive, decorative and functional response through the use of fabrics, dyes and fibres
· Use studio-based projects to introduce you to the concept of using research as a basis for design ideas
· Develop skills in the selection and use of visual elements, the use of equipment, techniques and technologies and their application to selected media
· Develop knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary societies and in other times and cultures.
Year 1 - AS level
· Two coursework assignments covering a range of textile techniques and a personal journal
· One externally set examination.
Year 2 - A level
· One extended personal study plus a coursework project with an emphasis on the quality of finished work
· One externally set controlled test.
Progression/career opportunities
The successful completion of this course will allow students to progress onto a range of Higher Education programmes or enter a career in the fashion and textile industry.

Extra information
An art and design materials kit is required for this course containing a variety of required media. This should be purchased during enrolment at a cost of £50 which will also cover the cost of various other textile materials and possibly help to subsidise some visits.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
