About this course

At least 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above in cluding english (which must include an art based subject at grade B or above). You will also be asked to provide a portfolio of art and design work for your interview.

Aim This 2 year programme is ideal for those who would like to follow a career in fashion related industries such as fashion design, fashion production, fashion marketing or fashion retail.
Content The qualification is made up of 18 units. All students take
5 core subjects which are:
· Drawing and development
· Historical and contextual understanding
· Materials, techniques and processes
· Ideas and concepts
· Visual communications.

Externally tested specialist units are:
· Art and design exploration
· Art and design application
· Art and design realisation.

Optional units may include:
· Pattern construction
· CAD/CAM for the fashion industry
· Exploring textiles
· Freelance work.

After the initial introductory and assessment phase your work will be organised into a series of challenging design briefs which are targeted at specific areas of learning with importance being placed on idea, design development and presentation of finished work.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful students may choose to use their qualification as progression route to a foundation degree in Fashion Studies or degree courses. Alternatively, those seeking employment can find a wide range of careers within the fashion and clothing industry.

Extra information A fashion and textiles kit is available for this course and is currently £50.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
