Course programme
The fashion and textiles industry can be considered one of the most exciting and dynamic markets within the creative sector with a wide selection of career opportunities, ranging from designing costumes to sustainable textiles or even making synergies between fashion and architecture.
From couture fashion houses to high street retailers, they all need their designers to have the appropriate mix of creative and technical skills.
The first year of this course will allow you to develop an understanding of modern fashion enterprise as well as more traditional elements of fashion, textile or costume design. This course will enable you to explore traditional textile techniques such as painting, printing, stitch and collage on fabric in an experimental way, alongside more non-traditional and contemporary techniques, to form flat two-dimensional fabrics or three-dimensional structures.
You will develop a repertoire of core skills, ranging from research, design development and illustration to pattern cutting and garment or costume construction.
The second year is a more intensive, vocational and highly practical course covering pattern-drafting and garment production techniques and a range of traditional and digital print, styling/editorial work and commercial or live projects.
As well as contemporary practice, you will learn the historical and vocational skill sets to ensure a broad based knowledge of the subject area and the wider Creative Arts.
