Fashion - Pattern Cutting

Pattern Cutting: Block
This 14 week course will teach you how to create clothing patterns using a standard block.
Week by week, our professional tutor will take you through areas such as:
Creating block shapes including a bodice and a skirt
Manipulating darts
Cutting garment components
Adapting blocks, for example adapting the skirt block to an A-Line skirt, circular, four gored and straight skirt
Basic and classic construction processes
Set - in Sleeve skirt and Collar styles
You will leave the course with a range of prototypes of clothes made from your own patterns as well as an understanding of the processes behind pattern cutting.
Pattern Cutting: Style
On this course, you will develop your skills in pattern cutting, creating garments such as ladies' trousers and dresses, and different size blocks such as bodice blocks, sleeve blocks, skirt blocks and more.
Over the weeks the course runs, you will:
Create a trouser block
Draft a pair of trousers with a waistband and pockets
Learn the advanced technique of pattern manipulation and adaptation
Learn how to layout and cut fabric
Create a Princess Line dress with facings and features such as sleeves and collars
Learn how to create bodice blocks, sleeve blocks, skirt blocks, trouser blocks and dress blocks
By the end of the course, you will have created a garment of your own design and will have the skills and knowledge to design and make more. Both of these courses would be suitable for those who aspire to make clothes to professional standards, or simply wish to gain an understanding of the pattern cutting process. To gain a complete understanding, it is recommended to attend both courses, which can be done in either order.
