About the FdA Children, Young People and Families programme
This programme is aimed at those currently working or wanting to work with children, young people and families within a community context. Modules throught the programme have been designed to cover relevant aspects of the common core skills for Children's Workforce and the Work with Parents National Occupational Standards.Students are provided with an underlying knowledge on which to work, based on the principle of enabling learners to become reflective critical practitioners seeking personal and professional development.
Studies will also develop skill and knowledge for working in sector.

Course programme
Entry requirements
For 2017 entry onwards: applicants require 80 UCAS points at A Level, or equivalent or an Access to HE Diploma. Additionally, applicants will be expected to have either a minimum grade C in GCSE English or Level 2 Functional Skills. Where students apply with a Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Health and /or Social Care or Youth Work and for non traditional entries a bridging unit may be offered prior to starting the course. Applicants are strongly encouraged to include evidence of relevant practice experience in sector.

Programme Benefits
Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue a new career, or advance an existing one in many organisations that deliver focus around work with children, young people and their families across social care, childcare, health and education.
These organisations include children's centres, teenage pregnancy, schools, health promotion, young people's services including a range of areas and youth work. Graduate children, young people and families workers work with children between 0-19 and their families. Graduates of this programme are strongly placed to apply for training in health & social care & community development.
Learning & Teaching Methods
Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential.
A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, seminars, workshops, student led discussions, directed learning tasks, experiential learning scenarios, presentations and debates.
