Course programme
- Local access to a University Sports Degree
- The course was written in conjunction with local employers and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. It is current, academically rigorous and meets the needs of the local job market
- The course focus is on coaching and its associated disciplines, fitness testing and programme design, psychology, anatomy and physiology
- A research methods and study skills module is also offered to support students and aid integration into higher level study
- Along side this students are prepared for work in the industry with sports modules centred on actual industrial experience
- The course utilises the strong community links the department has established, to place students in local Primary and Secondary Schools, Carmarthenshire County Council Sports Development Unit, NGB Development Officers, Swansea City FC, Scarlets, and CSG Sports Academy to gain practical work experience
- A Foundation Degree consists of 12 x 20 credit modules. This would take two years to complete full time. The course can be accessed either full or part time
- Students on completion can apply for the Level 6 (1 Year) BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching & Performance
Careers directly related to Sport and Physical Education including Fitness Centre Manager, Leisure Services Manager, Sports Administrator, Sports Coach/Instructor, Sports Development Officer, Sports Analyst, Strength and Conditioning Coach and PE Teacher or Lecturer.
Other careers where the study of sport would be useful could include the Emergency Services and Armed Services, and Sales and Youth work.
On completion of the Foundation Degree students can apply for the BSc (Hons) Degree in Sports, Coaching and Performance Top-Up Year.
Additional information
Modules will be assessed via a combination of assignments, case studies, log books and practical skill assessments.
More theoretical modules will be assessed through a combination of formal examinations, assignments, case studies and project work.
