About this course

Building on a range of approaches to cinema through viewing, discussion and analysis, you’ll direct your own learning through specialist pathways. Choose from specialisms like documentary, narrative or experimental short filmmaking, production, post-production editing, grade and sound design, and short and feature-length screenwriting.

Our Creative Skillset/Screenskills and CILECT accreditations are awarded to courses delivering the very best creative thinking, industry-relevant training, exceptional staff, facilities and partnerships.

you’ll have the opportunity to be an integral part of the crew on innovative productions. This has included features and shorts with partners such as BBC Films, iFeatures and Early Day in 2018.

Course programme

1st Year

Together we’ll develop your film knowledge by analysing a curated programme of screening, while nurturing your talents in all areas of short film making. You’ll have the chance to visit an international film festival - furthering your understanding of how the industry works, seeing the current trends in form, style, theme and narrative, and networking with experienced professionals through our career masterclass series.

2nd Year

You'll build on your interests and passions by embarking on specialist pathways - focusing your learning and cinema knowledge in an environment that recognises and embraces the medium’s changing nature. These pathways include gender and representation, experimental film, short and feature film screenwriting, environmental cinema and all aspects of production and post-production. We also offer the opportunity to engage in placements at NBC/Universal Hot House programme.

3rd Year

You’ll specialise further, embarking on your final-year major projects in crews and learning teams supported by a supervisor specialising in your chosen research and practice area. You’ll progress professionally as you enter international competitions and develop your academic work in terms of publication. You’ll also have the chance to take on placements with Ridley Scott Associates and Little White Lies.
