About the course

If you initially register for the foundation degree you will be eligible to progress onto the final year of the BSc (Hons) after successful completion of the foundation course.

The University of Bolton and the Manchester School of Sound Recording have been working together successfully for a number of years teaching both the theory and practice of sound recording.

The course includes a work placement where you will gain first hand experience of working in the advertising and music video production industry.

At the School of Sound Recording you will be able to develop your practical skills with hands-on experience using the School's exceptional facilities for sound recording and film. Teaching staff at the school are all professionals working in the industry who have extensive knowledge and experience in the field.

The University of Bolton's School of Games Computing and Creative Technologies offers excellent IT facilities and a teaching staff with broad experience in both the technology and applications of new media.
What you will learn

The main focus of the course is on developing your practical knowledge of video-making and you will gain first-hand experience in all aspects of music video and short film production including storyboarding, scripting, filming, editing, special effects, computer generated imagery, audio processing and post-production skills.

You will learn about the creative processes used in the medium such as framing images, visual narrative, storytelling and the style and techniques of film makers.

You will build an understanding of the history of the art form and, in the third year if you choose to progress to the BSc (Hons), you will learn about the business side of the advertising, music video and short film industries including marketing, pitching, selling and promoting the product.
