Overview
Today’s ever evolving global finance sector requires professionals and managers who are equipped to deal with complex problems. Our Finance and Management BSc (Hons) degree combines rigorous finance theory (and its application) with general management studies to prepare you for a successful career in financial services (e.g. for investment and commercial banks, asset management firms and securities houses) or general management.
In the first year of our BSc Finance and Management degree, you will build a firm foundation for modules in subsequent years to build on. With this mind, you can expect to cover the fundamentals of management and financial accounting, alongside developing key skills associated with quantitative, computing and communication skills.

Areas studied include ethics in finance and accounting, financial accounting and analysis, organisational behaviour, quantitative methods for business, law, macro and microeconomics, business modelling and skills for placement and employment.

You are required to study 120 credits in year one. All the modules in year one are compulsory.

The aims of this module are: to introduce students to some of the more elementary and relevant economic theories and issues at the firm and industry level; to relate economic theory to the business environment; to link economic theory to other management disciplines (eg: quantitative methods, accounting, finance and human resource management); to provide the background knowledge needed in several second year modules; for example in the areas of economics, finance and marketing.
