About this course
Standard AS/A level entry requirements of five GCSEs at grade A*-C apply.
In addition you will need to have achieved grade B or above at Art and preferably a grade B in English. A portfolio of your work, displaying your artistic achievement and potential, will be required at interview. Plus a minimum APS Score: 38

Aim This course will allow you to explore and develop a range of 2D and 3D techniques in fine art. You will be introduced to a range of fine art techniques such as painting, drawing, printing, sculpture and mixed media and will develop your understanding of how artists work through exploration and development of your own art practices. Visits to museums, art galleries and exhibitions are encouraged to broaden your awareness of art.
Content During the course you will:
· Develop your drawing skills
· Develop your ability in the use of many different drawing media
· Use studio-based projects to introduce you to the concept of using research as a basis for fine art ideas
· Develop skills in the selection and use of visual elements, the use of equipment, techniques and technologies and their application to selected media
· Develop the knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary societies and in other times and cultures.
Year 1 - AS level
· One coursework portfolio covering a range of 2D/3D skills, exploration and research.
· One externally set controlled assignment with a 5 hour exam.
Year 2 - A level
· A personal investigation with a related written personal study.
· One externally set controlled assignment with a 15 hour exam.
Progression/career opportunities
The successful completion of this course will allow students to progress on to a range of Higher Education programmes, or into a career in art, design or the creative industries.

Extra information
You will need a laboratory coat and safety glasses, which you can purchase at cost from the College.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
