Course programme
Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.
Programme modules do change and therefore may differ for your year of entry.
Stage 1 Compulsory modules- FIN1011 Studio Practice I
- FIN1012 Studio Practice II
- FIN1013 Art Histories I
- FIN1014 Art Histories II
- FIN2013 Studio Practice I
- FIN2014 Studio Practice II
You choose one of the following modules:
- FIN2017 Art Since 1945
- FIN2019 Gender and Contemporary Art
- FIN2041 Electric Dreams and Nuclear Visions: Art, Science and Medicine in the Twentieth Century
And you take one of the following modules:
- FIN2030 Art and Protest
- FIN2038 Modern and Postmodern Photography
- FIN2042 Fleshful Things: The Body and Visual Art
Other optional modules may also be available.
Stage 3You may choose to spend one semester of Stage 3 on an international exchange at a partner institution.
Compulsory modules- FIN3097 Art History Dissertation
You choose one module from the following list:
- FIN3010 Studio Practice I
- FIN3011 Studio Practice II with study abroad
- FIN3012 Studio Practice III
- FIN3013 Studio Practice IV with study abroad
You can select an additional module, if required, from those listed below (if not already taken at Stage 2) to bring your total credits for the year to 120:
- FIN3019 Gender and Contemporary Art
- FIN3027 Art Since 1945
- FIN3038 Modern and Postmodern Photography
- FIN3040 Art and Protest
- FIN3041 Electric Dreams and Nuclear Visions: Art, Science and Medicine in the Twentieth Century

You choose one module from the following list:

Careers Fine Art careers
A number of related careers are taken up by our graduates: running art galleries; as advisers to local councils; as visual arts officers for arts associations; and as teachers and arts specialists in the community. Our graduates have also gone on to pursue arts-related postgraduate study in areas such as design and digital media.
