Whilst doing this HND, learners will be exploring visual communication, idea generation, contextual and cultural referencing, professional practice and project design. The HND is the equivalent to the first two years of a degree programme and is well respected by universities and employers. They are vocational courses, where the emphasis is on ‘learning by doing’; you will learn about a particular job area and develop the skills necessary to work in that area or to progress on to Higher Education. Length: 1 year course for HNC or 2 year course for HND. You should have one of the following: An Access to Higher Education Diploma, a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Art and Design, an A Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one subject (A* - C), or other related Level 3 qualifications. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement such as extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their area.
What’s involved?You will work with a variety of professional practitioners exploring visual communication, ideas generation, contextual and cultural referencing, and professional practice through individual projects. A variety of disciplines and approaches will be explored and Ideas will be developed through specialist study in the art, crafts and textiles areas.
How will I be studying?The emphasis will be on work related practical activities backed up with theory and research. You will experience a variety of learning activities including workshops, lectures, peer groups, visits, working to briefs, tutorials, and personal sketchbook keeping. Final work will be presented as a professional exhibition.
Where can I move on to after this course?On successful completion you will be able to enter the second or third year of a degree course or honours degree programme. You will also be extremely well equipped for work in the creative industries or as a self employed working artist.
