Fire is one of the human welfare factors, as it can warm us up, or can be used to prepare food; it also add to the psychological comfort. However, improper behavior with fire may be detrimental. Fire protection is the tool, which can prevent major disasters. Therefore, specialists in this area are essential to Lithuania.
Fire Protection study programme aims to prepare specialists, who are be able to ensure human life and health as well as property of any type safety in case of any accident or natural disaster. Such specialists knows how to remove a fire, accident,of natural disaster consequences, and have fire safety and rescue operations knowledge and skills.
Fire protection specialists are able both to control fire and help the affected. They are also engineers, who design buildings and other structures that are protected from both fire and natural disasters.
The preparation of these specialists is one pf the country's top priorities. VGTU is the only higher education institution in Lithuania that trains highly qualified fire protection specialists.

About this course

Some key abilities and knowledge that Fire Protection study programme helps students develop and acquire include:
The ability to solve safety engineering tasks when designing innovative, special architecture, technology and large buildings;
The ability to identify, analyze and evaluate processes related to fire, accidents, and extreme situations;
The ability adjust and change constructions safety principles, evaluate risks of materials and elements' exploitation;
The ability to ensure and control fire protection by means of both passive and active fire protection measures;
The ability to select and appropriately exploit safety equipment and mechanisms;
The ability to raise essential safety issues that have the crucial impact on a safety of a human and their assets

Once you have graduated, you will be employable as:
A department head at Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania;
A fire protection engineer at planning organizations;
A safety systems and measures implementation manager at construction companies;
A specialist responsible for fire protection at various enterprises;
A safety measures research and development specialist;
You will also be able to pursue the second-cycle (master's degree) education.
