This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to become first-aiders in the workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training emergency first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.

Course programme

Topics covered include the role and responsibilities of a firstaider, being able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally, being able to manage a casualty with external bleeding, being able to manage a casualty with a minor injury, being able to conduct a secondary survey, being able to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries, and being able to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.

To complete this qualification learners should expect to undertake 22 hours of learning, with a minimum contact time, excluding break of 18 hours over 3 days.

This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and written/ oral questioning and an examination.
