Course Content

Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, employers have a responsibility to manage health and safety effectively.

The government have introduced a strategy to reduce the number of deaths and accidents on Britain's roads. The driving assessment programme, which is currently undertaken on a voluntary basis, has proven to potentially reduce a company's operating costs. However, every employer has a legal responsibility to assess the health and safety risks to their employees. There are a number of ways you can benefit as a company by employing the skills of the Pro-Scot Fleet Service team.

The Facts

  • 280,840 road accident related injuries
  • 3,221 of these were fatalities
  • 31,130 seriously injured

* Accident stats for 2006 from the Office of National Stats

The two high risk groups in terms of driving are the 17 - 25 year olds and secondly our company drivers. Company drivers are high risk due to their extended mileage and its estimated that those driving an average of 10,000 miles a year have a 1 in 7 chance of a collision each year! Those driving approximately 50,000 miles a year increase their risk of an accident by 67%. This is not because they are worse drivers they are simply more exposed to risk due to the high mileage. However, as employers we need to help in the battle to greatly reduce accident statistics and protect our employees, while at the same time benefiting your company.

Statistically it is estimated that on a daily basis 4 people die and 250 are seriously injured whilst someone is driving whilst at work - it could be one of yours.

  2. Their cognitive skills - there are 12 mental abilities which relate directly to driving including visual scanning and speed estimation, we will work to assess and improve all 12
