Are you looking for a career that is challenging, progressive, exciting, rewarding and truly remarkable? Are you an inquisitive, resilient, dedicated person who is good at problem solving and enjoys working in a team? If you are, forensic investigation may be the programme for you! Forensic investigation is the investigation of crime using specialist procedures and methods (often scientific in nature) and therefore forensic investigators typically work within the police service or forensic laboratories. As ex-forensic practitioners, the teaching staff know that you need to develop core knowledge and skills in the areas of police investigation, forensic science and law in order to be a good forensic investigator, as an understanding of the entire criminal justice process enables us to be more effective investigators. This knowledge base is therefore highly regarded by employers and the Forensic Investigation degree programme has been designed to incorporate these key areas, giving you choice and scope and improving your chances of gaining employment in forensic or related fields after graduation. In addition to ensuring that the scope, quality and currency of the programme content meets the demands of forensic employers, we have also embedded a significant amount of practical and laboratory work into the crime scene and forensic science modules, to enable the development of practical skills, competency in completing forensic documentation and an understanding of the application of concepts to real cases. We also provide opportunities for students to gain work experience in the field through volunteer work, paid work, visits to external organisations, projects with external partners and regular exposure to forensic professionals through guest lectures, again increasing the chance of employment.
