This Foundation Apprenticeship programme is designed for those in a role in the IT & Telecoms sector. Apprentices can work in areas such as Software & Web Development, Technical Support, Telecommunications and in roles such as support technician, website administrator, helpdesk professional or field operators.

Progression Opportunities:
It allows candidates to progress into a more senior role or possibly (depending on job role) to progress onto other qualifications such as Level 3 Intermediate Apprenticeship.

Course programme

Course Delivery:

The framework includes a balance of content in technical, business and interpersonal areas, designed to ensure apprentices have an appropriate set of skills to operate in today’s IT &Telecoms job roles.

The technical content includes units for Software Development, Web Development, Technical Support, data communications and Databases. Under the apprenticeship framework, the apprenticeship can also undertake learning and units specific to the employer needs.

The Foundation Apprenticeship Framework at Level 2 consists of the following qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT & Telecoms Professionals (4520-02)
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in ICT Systems Support (7540-12)
  • Essential Skills (Wales) Level 1 in: Communication, Application of Numbers and Digital Literacy

The Apprenticeship has mandatory units such as:

  • Professionalism and Communication
  • Health and Safety
  • Customer Care

The Foundation Apprenticeship also has three optional specialist units:

  • Software Installation and upgrade hardware and software
  • Testing ICT Systems
  • Technical Fault diagnosis
  • The Priciples of networking
  • Install, configure and test ICT networks
  • Use of applications (Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Powerpoint)
  • Other optional units available depending on individual and employer needs

Additional Information: You will have learned your skills on the job or by attending training courses and your assessor will help you to identify if there are any skills gaps which need to be filled prior to assessment. The QCF/NVQ is a competence based qualification, delivered through work based learning and workshops. The team has a wide range of IT training delivering to all levels from Level 1 to Level 4.
