The course gives students the relevant skills and knowledge for careers in the analytical/forensic science sector. Alternatively, students can join the final year of the BSc (Hons) Analytical and Forensic Science top up degree at University of South Wales.

Course programme

The course will be delivered through lectures, practical demonstrations, simulations, tutorials and role playing. Assessment is through examinations, practical write-ups, reports, presentations and practical abilities at crime scenes.

The course is traditional physical, organic, biological and analytical science mixed with forensic science, criminalistics and DNA analysis.

Level 4 units in the first year:

  • the forensic sciences
  • crime scene investigation science
  • cellular and molecular biology
  • key skills for analytical and forensic scientists
  • organic chemistry and an introduction to spectroscopy
  • physical and inorganic chemistry

Level 5 units in the second year:

  • biochemistry and biotechnology
  • practical skills in forensic and bioanalysis
  • forensic evidence and the legal system
  • analytical chemistry (studied at the University of South Wales)
  • work related project

Additional information

UCAS course code: 4F10 Tuition fees are £7,500 per year. For academic year 2019/20, students will need to get a tuition fee loan for the full amount. The College is offering a £1,000 bursary per year towards full time HE courses starting in September 2019 (this is dependant on satisfactory course progression).
