About this courseProviding a solid foundation for those with ambitions of a career in health and social care, this course covers a wide range of settings and age groups including children/young people and the elderly. Whether you are new to the sector, already employed, or volunteering for a local organisation, you will acquire invaluable experience and an understanding of the issues faced by practitioners. As well as giving you a qualification for health and social care, this course can provide a route into nursing, social work and related degrees or career pathways.
You will look at all aspects of working in a caring role, from equality and diversity to health promotion to psychology. You will also need to complete the employment practice module, which involves 300 hours of work experience.
There are no exams on this course. Your assessments will be made up of essays, presentations, case studies, research and projects. The course is designed to allow you to combine study with work commitments so hours of attendance will vary by college – please call for specific timetables.

Requirements
HNC, HND and Foundation Degrees – You would usually need a relevant BTEC level 3 profile of Merit/Pass or Pass/Pass/Pass; or DD at A level; or DE grades at A level plus C in Welsh Baccalaureate; or Access to HE where you have achieved a Pass Diploma with 45 level 3 credits (all Passes).
Additionally, GCSE passes at grade C or above in three subjects to include Mathematics and English Language (or equivalent).
Alternatively, applications will be considered from those who have completed a minimum of three months either working or volunteering within a Health and/or Social Care setting. Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.
