This Foundation Degree in Education Learning and Development provides you with an opportunity to achieve a degree which combines work-based activities and academic study. It is designed to be completed in three years. It includes a large proportion of work-based, on the job learning, focussed on your experience and work role.

About this course
Those who complete the Foundation Degree will be able to go on to a BA (Hons) (for example BA (Hons) in Education Learning and Development at the University of South Wales or BA (Hons) in Inclusive Education at UWTSD.
You should have a related Level 3 qualification with good literacy and numeracy skills, preferably with a C grade GCSE or equivalent in English and maths.
All candidates need to be in a position as a support worker during the course and have a minimum of 12 hours of direct support with learners per week.

Course programme
This is a three year, part time course run during the academic year September to June and attendance is for three hours over two evenings per week (six hours a week).
In Year One the modules are (80 credits):
- Academic Skills and Reflective Practice (20 credits)
- Learning and Cognition (20 credits)
- Language Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (40 credits)
In Year Two the modules are (80 credits):
- Introduction to Additional Learning Needs (20 credits)
- Health Wellbeing and Resilience (20 credits)
- Reflective Practice (20 credits)
- Curricula (20 credits)
In Year Three the modules are (80 credits):
- Research Project (40 credits)
- Inclusive Practice (20 credits)
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health (20 credits)
Assessment is based on written assignments, practical assessments and observed practice within the classroom.
