About this course

Students will be aged 18 and over and should hold a National Certificate or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, relevant A Levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification.
Applications are also welcome from people who have relevant industrial experience and other suitable education/training.

The Programme
Do you have a drive to make things work; This underpins the aims of this programme. The modules that have been assembled to make up the programme are designed to be challenging and to establish a knowledge base suitable for a career in technology. It has been identified that development skills at this level are key to impacting on a company's bottom line.
This would ideally suit people who wish to work, or who are already working as technicians in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing or associated industries. Students must be open minded when analysing the modules of this course.
The Programme Content
The course has a common core of study skills, analytical methods, organisational behaviour, CAD, project work and work based learning. The Mechanical Design and Manufacturing pathway includes Materials Science, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Science, Instrumentation & Control, Design for Manufacture, Manufacturing Systems, Health & Safety and Risk Assessment.
Assessment is through a combination of assignments, in course assessments and end of module examinations. The work of students project module is industry based and has been acknowledged as exceptional by both academics and industry.

Costs
There is an additional charge towards photocopying and stationery and students are also required to purchase their own core texts and the following equipment:
Scientific calculator with complex number function (Casio FX991MS preferred)
USB Flash (pen) drive
Access to a computer with office applications and a mathematics software package when not in college is advantageous.
Progression Careers
Upon successful completion students can progress to the University of Plymouth into the third year of a relevant BSc (Hons) Degree. Alternatively students can register for the BSc (Hons) Mechanical Design and Manufacture or BSc (Hons) Electro-Mechanical Design delivered at North Devon College on a part time basis.
Nationally there is a demand for graduates working at Incorporated Engineer level. Incorporated Engineers often work alongside chartered engineers on technological innovation.
If you are not already working within the engineering industry, this course should enable you to find appropriate work within your chosen area.
