Introduction
The Security Managers and Consultants course (SMCC) prepares candidates for the realities of the Security Industry in challenging environments. Candidates completing the course will have a recognized formal qualification and be familiar with security industry best practices; procedures and knowledge to allow them work in the different industries.
Giving you a head start in your career in security consultancyAttendees successfully completing the course and all assessments will be awarded a Foundation Degree in Security Management and Consultancy validated by Leeds Metropolitan University along with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safety Certificate. Because the course has been developed by Control Risks in conjunction with Park Lane College Leeds, you can be sure that the qualification will be positively recognised by employers in the industry, and will give you a real head start in your career in security consultancy.
Course content The SMCC foundation degree course has 2 levels; level 4 and 5. On successful completion of level 4 and 5 candidates will be awarded a foundation degree in Security Management and Consultancy (equivalent to 240 points towards the 360 points required for a full degree). Candidates will also be awarded the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safety certificate.The course covers:

1. Assessment at level 4 - pre-assessment. In order for candidates to enroll onto the Foundation Degree they must first achieve a pass mark of at least 40% in the pre-course assessment. This assessment will be completed remotely and candidates will have 4 weeks in which to complete it. Candidates will be required to carry out a piece of research on a security related subject and complete an assessment in the form of a report. This assessment determines that candidates have reached the academic level required to study at level 5. This assignment will be assessed by the Business School of Park Lane College Leeds.
2. Residential course. This 3 week intensive residential workshop will be taught at the Control Risks training school in Shropshire. The workshop will provide candidates with the necessary practical and academic skills required in the security industry and the knowledge to prepare them to complete the final assessment at level 5. During this period there will be a break from the main curriculum to concentrate on the IOSH Managing Safety Course. Before attendance on the residential workshop candidates will be sent some self study pre course preparation guidelines.
3. Distance learning assignments. A series of written assignments will be sent to candidates over an 11 week period based on preparatory work carried out during the residential workshop. This will lead up to the Level 5 final assignment which will cover various learning outcomes from the course and will assess candidates understanding and knowledge of the course material. This assignment will be assessed by the Business School of Park Lane College Leeds. Normally candidates will have 4 weeks to complete this assignment.
