Course Content
This course aims to prepare students for a career as a designer/maker of three-dimensional design crafts. Practical and Creative development is underpinned by theoretical studies.
Year 1: A series of projects introduce students to: design principles; ideas generation and design development; 2D visualisation including drawing techniques, printmaking, CAD; Properties of 3D materials- Clay, plaster, wood, metals, plastics and glass; Production methods for ceramics, glass, jewellery; historical, contextual and professional studies.
Year 2: Individually written project briefs, enabling students to develop specialism in ceramics, glass or jewellery. Design and production skills are developed through work placement and studio practice. Knowledge is further developed through professional practice and critical skills.

Progression / Leads to
Provides the necessary skills, knowledge and experience for employment. Provides an excellent pathway for those wishing to progress to the second or third year of a degree level course (BA Hons) or employment as a designer/maker of items for one-off, small scale or mass production.
