FOUNDATION DIPLOMA IN HAIR AND BEAUTY STUDIES - SCHOOL LEAVERS

Course Aims:
To develop skills and aquire knowledge in the broad context of each of the six hair and beauty related industries. Also to enhance your numeracy,literacy and IT skills alongside personal learning and thinking skills.

Course Content:
Principal Learning -Seven units to include
Introducing the hair and beauty sector
Creating a Positive Impression within hair and beauty
Introducing hair styling
Introducing basic skin care treatments
Personal appearance, style and well being with in hair and beauty
Careers within the hair and beauty sector and related industries

Generic Learning
Functional skills in English , Maths and it
A project
10 days work placement

Personal Learning and Thinking skills - to help you learn strategies to meet employer needs

Additional / Specialist Learning
You will have the opportunity to select Level One vocational units to enhance your skills and experience- options can be discusssed at induction.

Progression:
Sucessful learners can progress to a Level 2 qualification. Options include:-
The Higher Diploma
Apprenticeship
Further GCSEs
Full time vocational Level 2 courses
Employment
Students who would benefit from an alternative career path or subject on completion of this course will be given support and guidance to help them with their options.

Exam:
All elements of this course are assessed by practical observation and assignments/ projects or examination.
There are specific dates set for assigment completion and tests. If learners fail to pass or complete all elementsof this course they will not achieve a full Diploma qualification.

Level:
One

Professional Appearance:
Smart appearance and good personal hygeine are essential .
Students must wear the required uniform and shoes.

Notes:

This qualification is excellent for those who are unsure which of the six industries they would like to persue as a career.It does have a practical element but is highly research and study based and not a vocational qualification. Learners studying this qualification could then progress to a Level 2 vocational qualification to allow them to work as a practitioner in a salon / industry.

Other Costs:
A basic Hairdressing and Beauty kit -approximately 120 (exact costs can be discussed at interview)
2 uniform tops approximately 16 each
Black trousers or skirt
Black covered toe shoes
Visits and trips - allow 50 for local trips annually and 150 for an optional trip to Salon International in London (October)

Duration:
1 year fulltime - 4 days per week plus 10 days work placement.
