The Foundation Year in Social Sciences and Management is a pre-degree access programme that will provide you with a solid basis for future study.
The programme will help prepare you to meet the demands of learning before you embark on a degree programme, including a number of degree programmes provided by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Management and Law.
This course is aimed at students who do not have the necessary academic qualifications for registration directly onto a degree course.

    Identify and recognise your own learning strengths and needs, reflect on these and engage in action planning to increase learning effectiveness and success.

    Develop an understanding of the core philosophical concepts, methods and the historical contexts in which they developed.
  • Introduction to Psychology. 20 credits, optional
    Discuss a number of key theories which aim to answer the question: 'What makes us the way we are?'
  • Principles of Marketing. 20 credits, optional
    An introduction to the concepts and principles of marketing and their application.
  • Introduction to Understanding Organisations. 20 credits, optional
    An introduction to the concept of a learning organisation, the strategies that can be deployed to help develop learning organisations, and how to build a culture that encourages learning for the benefit of the business.
  • The Sociological Imagination. 20 credits, optional
    Develop an understanding of some of the key themes, concepts and perspectives within Sociology.

    Develop an understanding of how the governmental framework within which social policy is made and administered.
