These courses cover reading, writing, listening and speaking in the language. Grammar is taught in an integrated way. The emphasis is on the communicative method of learning. Formal instruction, pair/group work, listening, reading and comprehension exercises, role plays, games, discussions and tutorials are all part of the course. Use is also made of video, satellite broadcasts and audio tapes.
The exam board is EDEXCEL. Mock exams are held throughout the course. Final exams are in May and June and consist of three written papers and one oral. A minimum of 3 hours per week home study is required
What background and qualifications do you need to join?
You must have two years of previous learning of the language which is approximately 120 hours tuition or the equivalent experience of speaking and reading in the language. Your level of language skill will be assessed by means of a test and an interview prior to enrolment
What does the course lead to?
Successful completion of a GCSE higher in a language can lead to the AS or A level.
What are the facilities and equipment like?
Students will be able to use our Skills Centres, with plenty of visual research material, including books, slides, journals, CD ROMS and Internet access.
How much should I study outside class?
A minimum of three hours a week for the first part of the course, study time may be increased in the second part according to the students` needs.
How is the course assessed?
Mock exams in all the four skills are held throughout the course in preparation for the final exams.

What books and equipment do I need?
Students should not purchase a book until the language test/interview before the start of the course. After the interview the tutor will advise the students on which book and material to get.
What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?
Students will be asked to buy a French Text book with the accompanying CD
