French with Chinese (25% Chinese) will enable you to develop knowledge and understanding of the language, literature, culture, society and politics of France and the Francophone world, in both a historical and a contemporary perspective, to promote a lasting interest in, and enjoyment of, French cultural variety. At the same time, you'll also be able to learn a new language, Chinese.
You can spend your year abroad either in a French-speaking country for the whole year, or you can split your time between a French-speaking country and China (subject to the approval of exchange partners). You can go abroad either in year 2 or 3 of your degree.

About this course
The study of Mandarin Chinese language on this course is suitable for applicants who are beginners in the language or with a qualification up to A-Level standard (or equivalent) in Mandarin Chinese. However, please note that applicants with Mandarin Chinese language ability above this level, including native speakers, would not be suitable for this course. You will develop your linguistic skills by taking a language module in French and Mandarin each year you are at Warwick.

How will I learn?
You will have around 12 hours of contact time per week. We employ a variety of teaching styles, including: lectures; seminars of about 15 students, in which the emphasis is on student participation; and written and spoken language classes in small groups. You will spend the rest of your time studying independently, preparing for classes, reading the primary texts, writing essays and working on your language skills.
How will I be assessed?We will track your progress through language assignments, essays, presentations, portfolio submissions and examinations (written and oral). Throughout your course you will receive detailed, personalised feedback to help you to improve your skills.
