French with Italian (25% Italian) will enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the language, literature, culture, society and politics of France and the Francophone world, in both a historical and a contemporary perspective, to promote a lasting interest in, and enjoyment of, French cultural variety.
You can spend your year abroad either in a French-speaking country for the whole year, or you can split your time between a French-speaking country and an Italian-speaking country (subject to the approval of exchange partners). You can go abroad either in year 2 or 3 of your degree.

About this course
At the same time, you will develop your linguistic skills in both French and Italian. You will arrive with an A-level in French (or equivalent) but Italian can be taken at beginners, intermediate or advanced. You will study an Italian language module in your first and second years at Warwick, and in your final year you can choose either to continue studying language or take an Italian culture module if you have reached a satisfactory language standard in your 2nd year.

You will have around 12 hours of contact time per week. We employ a variety of teaching styles, including: lectures; seminars of about 15 students, in which the emphasis is on student participation; and written and spoken language classes in small groups. You will spend the rest of your time studying independently, preparing for classes, reading the primary texts, writing essays and working on your language skills.
How will I be assessed?We will track your progress through language assignments, essays, presentations, portfolio submissions and examinations (written and oral). Throughout your course you will receive detailed, personalised feedback to help you to improve your skills.
