Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.

A2 Chemistry
Applicants who have not taken AS Chemistry at the College will have their applications considered on an individual basis, taking into account availability of places, reference from current institution and examination boards taken at AS level. A minimum of grade D at AS level will be require.

About the course:
At Southall we follow the OCR syllabus Chemistry A.
For the AS you will study 3 separately assessed units:
Unit 1: Atoms, Bonds and Groups
Unit 2: Chains, Energy and Resources
Unit 3: Practical Skills 1

For A2, the units are:
Unit 4: Rings, Polymers and Analysis
Unit 5: Equilibria, Energetics and Elements
Unit 6: Practical Skills 2

Assessment:
AS
Unit 1 - written paper 30%

Unit 2 - written paper 50%

Unit 3 - practical, internally assessed 20%

After the course:
After completing the AS course, you can go on to do the A2 course for a full A level qualification.
