Summary
ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION HUMANITIES IS A RECOGNISED PATHWAY INTO TEACHING AND SOCIAL WORK. This programme is designed to meet the needs of students who may not have had the opportunity to enter Higher Education earlier in their lives. This full-time evening course is completed in 1 year. Students attend for two evenings a week throughout the year and some Saturday schools are also provided. The course includes study skills, and an introduction to Information Technology. Students have access to computers and learning resource centres. No formal qualifications are required to join this course because prior experience is considered as important as formal educational qualifications. Applicants interested in teaching will need to have passed GCSE's in Maths, English and Science. These subjects are available through the Adult Education Programme.

Qualifications
This nationally recognised Access course provides a route to Higher Education. It is an alternative to 'A2' level and is designed to meet the needs of adult students.

Progression Routes
Entry onto degree programmes. Automatic progression onto the BA English and History degree at West Suffolk College. Future careers include Teaching, Social work, Civil Service, Human Resource Management, Probation Service, Retail.

Modules
Following an introduction to each of the subject areas, the course is divided into four interdisciplinary modules: The Politics of Childhood, Gender and Society, Cultures and Early 20th Century Britain.

Additional Costs
Most of the resources required for completion of the course are provided, but students should anticipate spending approximately £40 on text books.
