Administration Assistant Level 1
The course aims to provide students with the opportunity to acquire and develop the skills and knowledge needed to apply for jobs in business and administration. The main qualification is an NVQ in Business and Administration which is designed to recognise the administrative skills and competence of students in the workplace. The NVQ is entirely work-related. All students will attend work placement for one day a week to start as soon as possible but no later than 6 weeks from the start of term. They will attend college on 4 days a week. To achieve the Text Processing certificate students will learn to keyboard effectively and become proficient in both Text Production and Word Processing.
Course Content:
The qualification consists of mandatory and optional units. To achieve a full award at level 1, students must complete the 2 mandatory units and 2 optional units.
Mandatory Units:
- Carry out your responsibilities at work
- Work within your business environment
Optional Units:

- Handle Mail
- Store and retrieve information
- Word processing software (level 1)
- Operate office equipment
Level 1 is for those who are working with a high degree of support and supervision. The method of delivery is mainly practical and will appeal to students who enjoy a hands-on approach to work in an office style environment.
Vocational Relevance:
The NVQ is entirely work-related and is based on a broad range of competencies from the administration sector. The performance indicators clearly set out what a person is expected to do in their job and lists the skills necessary to demonstrate competence.
Awarding body:
Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR).
Work Experience / Practical Experience:
Students will also attend a work placement for one day a week and College for the other four days.
Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.

Entry Process:
All applicants will be interviewed prior to acceptance for the course. An interview will be arranged at the earliest opportunity after receiving your application.
Assessment:
Students are assessed by internal assessment and internal and external verification to ensure that national standards have been met.
Progression Routes:
Students may progress to Administrative and Secretarial Skills Level 2 or NVQ Business and Administration Level 2.
