Summary
This course provides an introduction to scientific investigative work undertaken in crime investigation. It includes a strong element of science-based subjects and specialist modules such as Criminology, Photography, Psychology and Law. Vocational practice is not offered due to the nature of the work, however, various educational trips to laboratories, courts, exhibitions and conferences are provided, and students will be expected to participate.

Qualifications
National Diploma in Applied Science (Forensic Science) - equivalent to 3 A2 levels. Within this course there is an opportunity to take a National Certificate or National Award if this is more appropriate for the student which is equivalent to 2 A levels/1 A level awards respectively.

Progression Routes
Progression can be made to a variety of Higher Education courses including Forensic Science, Criminal Psychology and Forensic Anthropology - although competition for these courses is high, and students will require good academic standing to be considered. Opportunities also exist to study within the Health Service, in a range of careers from Radiography to Nursing and Laboratory-based work. A range of laboratory work in both the private and public sector would also be available to students.
