Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.
About the course:
For the AS course you will study three separately assessed units including coursework
Unit F211: Biology Foundation
Unit F212: Human Health, Disease & Transport
Unit F213: Molecules & Cells, Exchange & Reproduction
You can continue your studies in Advanced level Biology into second year and will study a further 3 units:
Unit F214: Energy, the Environment
Unit F215: Respiration & Co-ordination
Unit F216: Genetics, Evolution and Biodiversity
You will complete an individual investigation, which will give you the opportunity to explore an area of biology in-depth
Assessment:
You will sit the AS examinations in June, at the end of your first year. If you are successful, you can continue onto the A2 component in your second year of study. There is continous assessment. Lectures are supported by practical laboratory work, some of which is assessed coursework. Coursework is completed in the classroom under exam conditions.
After the course:
After completion of the 2 year course, you could then use your qualification to help you enter higher education to train for a career in any of the following:
Medicine
Biomedical Science
Pharmacy
Sports Science
Biotechnology
Nursing
Engineering
You will receive regular tutorial support and specialist guidance from career advisers on University application procedures.
