BTEC First Certificate / Diploma in Animal Care
A practical, work related course aimed at developing a wide range of skills and knowledge. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It covers basic knowledge and technical practical skills.
Course modules include Animal Establishments, animal nursing, work related experience in animal care, breeds and grooming along with retail and customer care.
Upon successful completion and a positive tutor report it is possible to progress onto the National Diploma / Certificate.
The First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE grade A* - C and may be taken as a full-time or part-time course. The Certificate is normally undertaken part-time over one year.

What will I study?
You will learn a great deal about animal care methods and about various species of exotic animals. You will learn a certain amount of science and the office skills which are essential in this field. Subjects covered: Animal care. Animal health. Introduction to biology. Work experience. Introduction to land-based industries. Retail and customer services. Habitat establishment and maintenance. Breeds and grooming. Animal establishments. Animal nursing.
