Applicants will also have interviewed successfully for the course.
All applicants have to provide a positive educational reference stating their suitability for this course, as well giving information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance on their previous course.(For example, if an applicant cannot provide evidence of attendance of 80% or over on the preceding course they may not be allowed to enrol on this course).
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical and work-related course. Students will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course is made up of seven units made up of core units, which provide a general foundation, and specialist units, which introduce learners to particular topics in more depth.
Basic Skills are integral to students achieving this course. Through the study of Literacy students will learn how to complete their assignments up to the level required by their course and their future employers.
In addition to studying Basic Skills the subjects covered are:
Introduction To Computer Systems;
Using ICT to Present Information;
Website Development;
ICT Graphics;
Installing Hardware Components;
Database Software; and
Spreadsheet Software.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
This course gives achieving students from the First Diploma IT Practitioners the opportunity to choose to come back to do the National Diploma IT or similar courses at Croydon College.
The other major progression route is to enter the workplace in a technical position.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE There are no exams for the main course. There is an exam for literacy.
