· Course Overview: · The BTEC Introductory Certificate in Sport and Leisure is a four unit theoretical and practical work-based course. It is designed to widen participation and provide flexibility to enhance learner attainment at Level 1. This course is delivered over the first half of the academic year and then it merges with the BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Public Services course which is delivered over the second half of the academic year (See BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Public Services course flyer for details). To achieve both level one qualifications, learners will be in study for one year. Learning occurs through the completion of vocational devised assignments with a range of assessments to accommodate every learner. The Introductory Certificate is the equivalent of two GCSEs grades D-G. The course is comprised of four units: two core units, one Personal Skills unit and one Option unit. On successful completion of the BTEC Introductory Certificate students can progress to an EDEXCEL Level 2 qualification in the same vocational are (BTEC first Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science). With progression through levels one, two and three, substantial career opportunities such as sport psychology, sports therapy, fitness instructor, sports developer and coaching are open to learners.
