· Course Overview: · The BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Public Services is a six unit theoretical and practical work-based course which is designed to widen participation and provide flexibility to enhance learner attainment at Level 1. This course is delivered over the second half of the academic year following completion of the BTEC Introductory Certificate in Sport and Leisure course (see BTEC Introductory Certificate in Sport and Leisure course Flyer for more information). Across both level one qualifications, learners will therefore be in study for one year. Learning occurs through the completion of vocational devised assignments with a range of assessments to suit every learner. The level 1 certificate is the equivalent to two GCSEs at grades D-G. This is composed of six units, three core units and three specialist units. On successful completion of the BTEC Level 1 Certificate students can progress to an EDEXCEL Level 2 BTEC First qualification in the same vocational area (BTEC First Diploma in Public Services). With progression through level one to three, career opportunities exist in the fire, police and ambulance services, local government administration, customs and excise, care work, armed forces, military policy, security and the prison services.
