This is a 1 or 2-year course depending upon the number of units being studied. The qualifications are divided into blocks of 6 units, each equivalent to one A level. You can study 6 units (Award), 12 units (Certificate) or 18 units (Diploma). Alongside the National Diploma or Certificate, you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is also equivalent to one A level. During the course you will have the opportunity to visit a variety of the public services, such as the Army and the Fire Service. Former students have taken part in riot training, army training days and team working exercises. You will be able to meet and listen to guest speakers from the main public services to find out about careers in these fields. Due to the structure of this course on completion you will leave the college with 2 qualifications, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

What will I study?
The course includes a wide variety of subjects designed to improve your opportunities for securing a job in the public services. Some of the subjects are theoretical whereas others are very practical in their nature. Subject titles include Law & the Legal System; Health & Fitness; Leadership; Expedition Skills; Major Incidents; Uniformed Services and Citizenship. For the Welsh Baccalaureate, you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising. You will also study 6 Key Skills, which are integrated into the course.

How will I be assessed?
Your work is continuously assessed through a series of projects. Grades of pass, merit and distinction are awarded depending upon the quality of your work.

Career Opportunities & Progression
Successful completion of this course is a direct entry to University to study either a HND or an Honours Degree in subjects related to a career in the public services. Alternatively you can progress to a career in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Custom & Excise, Ambulance Service or Prison Service etc.
