Course Description
This course will enable you to gain further skills in the performing arts area of production and expand your employment opportunities within the sector of performing arts. You will understand the technical skills of model making, scale set design and will apply set construction to performance productions. You will also learn to design and construct costumes for performances.

Work placements will occur continuously within college through working on the Performing Arts Showcase and Festival over the two academic years as part of the final core assessment. Work experience opportunities may be available to you at theatre venues, local theatre companies/groups and performing arts organisations.

All learners studying the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting) would benefit from studying this in addition to their main programme (equivalent to one A level), in order to expand skills and future employment prospects.

Half day per week over two years

Career Progression
Alongside either two A Levels or a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts there are opportunities to progress onto Higher Education studying either HNC, HND, Foundation Degrees, BA (Hons) Degrees in stagecraft, performance, production or technical theatre subjects.

Employment as: Set Designer, Set Constructor, Props Maker, Model Maker, Costume Design Maker, Master Carpenter or Head of Workshop

Work Experience

Assessment
Assessment is by coursework. You undertake 6 practical units over two years

Trips and Enrichment Activities
A residential trip to London is offered every year. This trip is optional and fees are confirmed each year.
Visits to theatres and theatrical companies, as well as in-house visiting speakers and workshops with touring companies are arranged to enrich the main curriculum.
